Demister (Mesh Pad)

In chemical process plants, outlet gases from various liquid/gas contacting devices such as evaporation towers and distillation columns often contain entrained liquids in the form of droplets. These entrained liquid droplets needs to be removed to prevent affecting the quality of gas required for the downstream processes.

The mesh type demister pad is a highly efficient solution for liquid/gas separation, using metal wire woven into a flat or round wire mesh sheet to form a separating layer to remove entrained liquids, or to recover expensive impurities from the gases.

Features:

  • Special design
  • High demisting efficiency
  • Simple structure
  • High porosity
  • Low pressure drop
  • Light weight
  • Easy installation and maintenance
  • Up to 99% efficiency for droplets larger than 1μm

Mechanism

As the fine liquid droplets entrained in the gases passes through the demister mesh pad, the droplets hit the wire meshes, adhering to the surface of the wires. As more droplets attach to the surface of the wires, the coalesced droplets increases in size and eventually falls down due to gravity, completing the separation process.

Demister Screen Pressure Drop

As demister mesh screens have low pressure drop (typically <25mmH2O), the pressure drop is usually negligible.
