Industrial filter can be provided with double-opening element (DOE) or single-opening element (SOE).

Double-opening element (DOE) has two seals on each open end. DOE has a simple design and requires little capital, and is popular in environments where high-precision is not required and where the level of impurities is not critical to the process.

Industrial filters are widely used as pre-filtration for a water filtration system to protect downstream membranes. They are also employed in filtering environments of high-temperatures, such as food clarification and heat transfer oil production, where cartridges are made of fiberglass or bleached cotton.

SOE has only one opening; with only one seal, it is suitable for double O ring seal, reducing or preventing side leakages. SOE cartridges are frequently used in environments where high filtration precision is required.
